No one has more parallels to Yeshua than Joseph. His life was determined by YHVH to prophesy about Yeshua and how Yeshua would save His 12 brothers (tribes) and the whole world, too. Here are 34 of those parallels between Joseph and Yeshua. (For all 70 parallels, click here).
We now see the enmity between Joseph and his brothers and how this situation parallels and prophesies about Yeshua. The future of Israel would see a split between Judah and Joseph but in a surprising way – Benjamin, Joseph’s full biological brother, would side with Judah when the Kingdom was split during the time of Rehoboam and Jeroboam. The geography and politics of that time would dictate that some of the brothers who were with Judah against Joseph would side with Joseph against Judah. Nonetheless, however the breach finally came to fruition, the breach in the Kingdom started here between Joseph and Judah, the two firstborns of Israel with the one, Judah, betraying the other, Joseph and later Yeshua who came to restore and reunite the 12 tribes against the House of Judah’s will.
Now, let’s turn our attention to one of the end time prophecies having to do with how Judah and Joseph get their rivalry resolved. First, we will turn to Genesis 38 to look at how Judah handled their conflict.
Gen 38:1 At that time, Judah went down from his brothers, and visited a certain
Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
There is a truism that says often our relationship with the Father is influenced by the relationship we had with our earthly father. Judah’s relationship with Jacob was not so good. We learned last week that there was a family dynamic in which Leah’s sons were not favored by Jacob just as his wife Leah was not favored by him.
The sons reacted to this in different ways. Jasher tells us the Reuben took out his frustration with Jacob by having sex with Rachel’s handmaid, Bilhah. We will see Judah defy Jacob here in chapter 38, as well.
After the betrayal and false “death” of Joseph, Judah could not stand the grief Jacob experienced. It probably gave him mixed feelings of grief and bitterness because Jacob’s great grief would also have reminded Judah of how much more Jacob loved Joseph than all the other brothers.
Jasher 43:30 And Jacob continued to speak like unto these words concerning Joseph, and he wept bitterly; he fell to the ground and became still.
31 And all the sons of Jacob seeing their father’s trouble [Jacob’s trouble], they repented of what they had done, and they also wept bitterly.
32 And Judah rose up and lifted his father’s head from the ground, and placed it upon his lap, and he wiped his father’s tears from his cheeks, and Judah wept an exceeding great weeping, whilst his father’s head was reclining upon his lap, still as a stone.
33 And the sons of Jacob saw their father’s trouble [Jacob’s trouble], and they lifted up their voices and continued to weep, and Jacob was yet lying upon the ground still as a stone.
34 And all his sons and his servants and his servant’s children rose up and stood round him to comfort him, and he refused to be comforted.
35 And the whole household of Jacob rose up and mourned a great mourning on account of Joseph and their father’s trouble [Jacob’s trouble], and the intelligence reached Isaac, the son of Abraham, the father of Jacob, and he wept bitterly on account of Joseph, he and all his household, and he went from the place where he dwelt in Hebron, and his men with him, and he comforted Jacob his son, and he refused to be comforted.
Three times in that passage Jasher calls Jacob’s grief “Jacob’s trouble”. Jasher uses the term “trouble” for Jacob’s sorrow over the loss of Joseph. This is a prophecy that is not found in Genesis. It does not use the words “sorrow” or “trouble”. It only says Jacob tore his robe and grieved. Jasher, though, describes Jacob’s sorrow as “trouble”, a word we should recognize as relating to the Tribulation.
Judah would have realized at some point in this account that that he would become the firstborn. So, Judah “prevailed”, as it were.
1 Chronicles 5:1 The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel; and the genealogy is not to be listed according to the birthright.
1 Chronicles 5:2 For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and from him came the prince; but the birthright was Joseph’s)—
Judah left to get away from watching Jacob’s grief and he despitefully married a Canaanite in Genesis 38:2 to get back at Jacob as Simeon had done (Genesis 46:10).
Marriage to a Canaanite had been prohibited by Abraham for Isaac and by Isaac for Esau and Jacob and would have been prohibited by Jacob to all of his sons. Yet, here is Judah marrying a Canaanite in defiance of Jacob and from Judah needs to come the promised Messiah. An Israelite marrying a Canaanite brings the curses of Canaan into the Israelite line.
We know the story of the Judah’s 2 sons whom YHVH killed because they used Tamar for sex but would not give her children so I will proceed to Judah’s relationship with Tamar.
Genesis 38:12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
Tamar heard about this so in verse 14 we read about how she “took off the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she wasn’t given to him as a wife”.
Genesis 38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot [zanah]; because she had covered her face.
Tamar sat in an open place but she had covered her face and body for anonymity. Judah thought Tamar was a zanah (Strong’s H2181).
There are two kinds of harlots in scripture: Zanah and qedesha. Zanah harlots may or not be street walkers, sex workers. The qedesha is specifically a temple prostitute also may prostitute herself outside the temple for money. In this account, we will see that Judah does not know which kind of harlot to call Tamar.
Tamar was prostituting herself but to only one man, Judah, and it was for the purpose of getting a son from the line of Judah. It was the duty of every wife to produce children and Tamar would have been viewed as a failure for not bringing forth children from one of her husbands. The cultural onus was on her to produce a child.
Genesis 38:16 He turned to her by the way, and said, “Please come, let me come in to you,” for he didn’t know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?”
Tamar was sitting there alone. We know this because the men of the area, later in the account, will attest that no prostitutes sit “by the way” (Genesis 38:21-22).
Here, Tamar also asks for payment before having the sex.
Genesis 38:17 He said, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said, “Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?”
Tamar knows not to take Judah at his word anymore. She asks for what we, today, would call earnest money.
Genesis 38:18 He said, “What pledge will I give you?” She said, “Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.
Tamar is smarter than Judah. She asks for everything that signifies his firstborn place in Jacob’s family. Judah was willing to put the evidences of his Melchizedek firstborn right and status into the hand of a Gentile prostitute!
Genesis 38:21 Then he asked the men of her place, saying, “Where is the prostitute, that was at Enaim by the road?” They said, “There has been no prostitute [qedesha] here.”
Genesis 38:22 He returned to Judah, and said, “I haven’t found her; and also the men of the place said, ‘There has been no prostitute [qedesha] here.’”
Judah sent Hirah, the Adullamite (Genesis 28:20) to pay Tamar and get his firstborn signifiers back. Hirah asks about a qedesha temple prostitute and has to go back to Judah without Judah’s things because there is no qedesha, temple prostitute, to be found.
Gen 38:23 Judah said, “Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this young goat, and you haven’t found her.”
Let the prostitute keep what? Judah’s signet ring, his cord and his staff, the emblems of his rulership! He figures those things are lost to him now and he blames Hirah.
Genesis 38:24 About three months later, Judah was told, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute. Moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.” Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.”
Who was Tamar that Judah thought he needed to burn her?
Jasher 45:23 And in those days Judah went to the house of Shem and took Tamar the daughter of Elam, the son of Shem, for a wife for his first born Er.
The House of Shem obeyed the law because it was within the tents of Shem that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob learned the commandments, statutes and regulations.
But there appears to be a conundrum here because the House of Shem would have known to not intermarry with a partial Canaanite line (giving Tamar to a half Canaanite, Er). However, the conundrum is solved when we understand that the specific prohibition against intermarrying with the Canaanites was for Abraham, Isaac’s and Jacob’s line only. It was for Israel only. The other lines of Shem were free to marry whoever they wanted. It was Israel whose genealogy had to remain pure from the Canaanite line.
The death penalty for a daughter of any priestly line, however, and in this case the Melchizedek line from Shem, was burning.
Lev 21:9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.
This commandment went all the way back to the Order of Melchizedek beginning with Adam. It did not originate here.
In my teaching on the Order of Melchizedek, I said the reason YHVH promised He would not destroy the earth with water again was because Noah was the Melchizedek. As Noah’s children are “daughter” in the same way that YHVH’s people collectively are called “daughter of Zion”. We have prostituted ourselves to Satan and must be burned with fire. That is why the coming destruction features fire.
Tamar was of the Melchizedek priestly line from Shem’s son Elam the Torah’s command was for any daughter of the priestly line whether of the Melchizedek or the Levitical one.
Genesis 38:25 When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “I amwith child by the man who owns these.” She also said, “Please discern whose are these—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.”
Geesis 38:26 Judah acknowledged them, and said, “She is more righteous than I, because I didn’t give her to Shelah, my son.” He knew her again no more.
Tamar had a just cause. She fought for what was due her but what was due her turned out to the be the righteous line through which Yeshua would come.
The rest of the chapter deals with the twins fighting over which one would be the rightful firstborn. This birth plays out the problem between Judah and Joseph.
Genesis 38 reveals a lot about Judah’s character which follows him to this day. And Genesis 37 and 38 are one reason YHVH’s people have to go through Tribulation. There has to be an end to the enmity, the sibling rivalry on a grand scale, between Judah and Joseph. One way YHVH will use to end it is found in Revelation 10, the chapter that describes the 7 thunders.
Revelation 10:1 I saw a mighty angel coming down out of the sky, clothed with a cloud. A rainbow was on his head. His face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.
A mighty messenger comes clothed with elements of the covenants of Noah and Mount Sinai. The cloud and his feet of fire are part of YHVH’s display of authority at Mount Sinai when the Mosaic covenant was given while the rainbow is from the covenant with Noah which the Jews are now beginning to push on the world as a Noahide covenant with seven laws.
His face that shining like the sun tells us immediately who this is:
Matthew 17:2 He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.
Psalms 29:3 Yahweh’s voice is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even Yahweh on many waters.
YHVH’s voice is thunder as it was at Mount Sinai and His voice is on many waters heard by many peoples. In Revelation 10:1, He about to speak another law that comes from a little book.
When did Yeshua’s voice of thunder first appear in scripture? When YHVH sent Tribulation to Egypt.
Exodus 9:23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
Two of the elements in Revelation 10 are thunder and fire. These are always associated with YHVH. Destructive hail accompanies the thunder and fire of YHVH.
The next time we read about thunder is at Mount Sinai when the commandments were given.
Exodus 19:16 On the third day, when it was morning, there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
Each of the ten commandments are separate, heard from its own voice. The commandments are not jumbled up together but are intended for each one to stand on its own authority given to it by YHVH. The seven thunders, each Noahide law, has its own separate voice.
In war and in instruction to His people, YHVH wants us to understand that the voice of thunder comes from the same One, YHVH, even though each proclamation is made separately to stand on its own.
Revelation 10:2 He had in his hand a little open book. He set his right foot on the sea, and his left on the land.
The significance of the little book is important. It is a book that seems to be sweet in the mouth but becomes bitter when it gets into the stomach. This little book is little because to Yeshua it means nothing and has nothing to say. Some might say the little book is little because it contains only seven laws. I believe it is the Talmud. Why?
Because of something the Talmud has to say about the right and left sides and in this verse the right and left are important clues to the identity of the little book. In some books of the Talmud, especially the Zohar, it is taught that the left side is evil and unclean. In Judaism, evil and uncleanness is always attributed to idolators and there are no greater idolators in Judaism’s doctrine that those who believe Yeshua is God in the flesh and is the Messiah of all 12-tribed Israel.
Yeshua stands with his left foot on the land, ha eretz in Hebrew, Israel, facing south. From the little book’s own writings about the left begin evil and unclean, Yeshua is saying the land and its people on His left are evil and unclean while His right foot stands in the place represents the population of the earth, the sea.
The Noahide Laws are Rabbinic, not Biblical. They are seven laws the Talmud says was given to Adam and Noah before the revelation of YHVH’s divine law to Moses on Mount Sinai. According to the Talmud, these are binding on all non-Jews because the Noahide laws supersede and cancels Mount Sinai for non-Jews.
The term “non-Jew” applies to those who believe Yeshua is God in the flesh and the Messiah of all 12-tribed Israel and also to those without faith, Gentiles.
Revelation 10:3 He cried with a loud voice, as a lion roars. When he cried, the seven thunders uttered their voices.
The Lion of Judah roars and then seven thunders being to speak.
Revelation 10:4 When the seven thunders sounded, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from the sky saying, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders said, and don’t write them.”
Revelation 10:5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to the sky,
Revelation 10:6 and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there will no longer be delay,
Revelation 10:7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as he declared to his servants, the prophets.
Revelation 10:8 The voice which I heard from heaven, again speaking with me, said, “Go, take the book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the land.”
Revelation 10:9 I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. He said to me, “Take it, and eat it up. It will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.”
Revelation 10:10 I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth. When I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.
Revelation 10:11 They told me, “You must prophesy again over many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”
Verse 11 defines the symbolism of the word “sea” on which Yeshua stands with His right foot.
What were the seven thunders going to say?
- Do not worship idols.
- Do not curse God.
- Do not commit murder.
- Do not commit adultery or sexual immorality.
- Do not steal.
- Do not eat flesh torn from a living animal.
- Establish courts of justice.
Here is where Jewish injustice will meet non-Jews who believe in Yeshua and keep His commandments. If you keep the Sabbath, you die. In fact, non-Jews who keep any of the Torah are subject to execution, particularly to decapitation. Here is what the Talmud says about non-Jews keeping the Sabbath.
And Reish Lakish says: A gentile who observed Shabbat is liable to receive the death penalty, as it is stated: “And day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:23), which literally means: And day and night they shall not rest. This is interpreted homiletically to mean that the descendants of Noah may not take a day of rest. And the Master said (57a) that their prohibition is their death penalty, i.e., the punishment for any prohibition with regard to descendants of Noah is execution. Ravina says: If a descendant of Noah observes a day of rest on any day of the week, even one not set aside for religious worship, e.g., on a Monday, he is liable. Sanhedrin 58b.
The Talmud says, “If a non-Jew violated one of the seven Noahide laws, he is liable to death by decapitation” (Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 56A, Steinsaltz edition, Vol. XVIII, p. 92).
To understand why Yeshua is about to release the voices of the seven thunders to John, and then instruct him to not write down what the seven thunders said, we have to go back to Dothan.
Dothan, where Joseph went to find his brothers, means “two wells”. It was probably in one of Dothan’s 2 wells that Joseph was thrown into and it is still there today.
Dothan was later the hometown of Prophet Elisha (2 Kings 6:13). Elisha is the prophet of Tribulation.
Dothan, Strong’s H1886, is spelled dalet tav nun. Dath, Strong’s H1881, Dothan’s root word, is spelled dalet tav. Dath, Strong’s 1881, means royal edict, law, decree as in the Talmud’s “the Rabbis decree and God obeys”. The word dath is first used in Ezra 8:36 and then throughout the Book of Esther as decrees by the king of Persia. In other words, doth/dath, is strictly man’s laws.
In Dothan, we see Joseph’s brothers doing what Yeshua’s brothers later were doing: Issuing man’s laws and calling them God’s will. By the time of Yeshua, there was a name for these “dath”, these decrees: Judaism.
In the case of Joseph and his brothers back then, the decrees were “let’s kill him”, “let’s throw him in the pit”, “let’s sell him”. Therein lies the beginning of the Talmud.
Judah, the one who betrayed Joseph to the Ishmaelites (call them Gentiles) because Judah did not want Joseph. Joseph had too much favor with the father, Jacob. Later, it would be Judah’s descendants and brothers who betrayed Yeshua, throwing him into a pit, a grave, because they did not want Him because He had too much favor with the Father.
There were two wells. One was dry and is the one Joseph was thrown into. The other had water, living water that watered the sheep. But Joseph’s brothers dealt only in the dry well in this account. Man’s religions and religious doth/dath laws, the Talmud and the doctrines of men in Christianity and Islam and their decrees are a dry well. That is why we have to make the choice between religion and Kingdom.
Close by the dry well is the well of living water, Yeshua. It was Yeshua, that “certain man” in Genesis 37:17, who then went with Joseph into Egypt and directed his life there.
The betrayal of Joseph has to be resolved, folks. Judah prevailed and his end times “dath” decrees, the Noahide laws, will cover the entire earth and those laws will affect YHVH’s people and those who are not YHVH’s.
Yeshua as the mighty messenger is not now endorsing Judaism, the Talmud and the Talmud’s Rabbinic laws and the Noahide Laws over His own. No. He is making these to become part of the punishment of Israel and the world. The practice and implementation of the Noahide laws will show everyone how unjust they are. Judah’s manmade religious decrees will finally be stopped but not before havoc, death and disaster come to the earth because of them. The Noahide laws are Judah’s attempt to make all people servants to Judah, even the legitimate tribes that are not with him in the House of Judah AKA the Jews.
The Talmud with its Noahide laws have the appearance of easiness. Judaism tastes sweet. But as soon as it hits the stomach and has to be digested (i.e. put into practice), it becomes bitter. The Noahide laws seem even sweeter to those who reject the Torah in part or in whole.
The first 3.5 years of the 7-year Tribulation period is called the time of Jacob’s sorrow, the incredible sorrow he had over the loss of his son because his son was betrayed.
There is another truism I want to mention. What happens to the people’s Messiah will happen to the people who believe the Messiah. The Jews will turn on Christians once the Revelation Judeo-Christian beast has risen to full power as Mystery Babylon in Jerusalem. It will be from Jerusalem that the full impact of the Noahide laws, the seven thunders, will reverberate around the world and will bring punishment to those who have the faith of Yeshua and keep His commandments instead of the Talmudic Rabbinic law or the Noahide laws.
The seven thunders announcement will come between the sixth seal of the great earthquake and the seventh seal of the half hour of silence in heaven after which the angel will throw his censor to the earth.
Malachi 4:1 “For, behold, the day comes, it burns as a furnace; and all the proud, and all who work wickedness, will be stubble; and the day that comes will burn them up,” says Yahweh of Armies, “that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Malachi l 4:2 But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall.
Malachi 4:3 You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make,” says Yahweh of Armies.
Malachi 4:4 “Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances.
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
Malachi 4:6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
