Golan battles bring Hizballah near Israeli border

In the last 48 hours, Israel has conducted air strikes on and aimed tank fire at Syrian army positions near Quneitra’s northern suburb of Baath city, 3km from IDF Golan border defenses. (See map). Those positions were the source of the mortar shells that exploded on the Israeli Golan – 10 on Saturday, June 24 and three the next day. They came from a battle in which Syrian and Hizballah units were fighting off a Syrian rebel offensive around Quneitra.

Kushner, who was joined by Jason Greenblatt, the president’s top representative on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and David Friedman, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, discussed with the prime minister “potential next steps” in the effort to establish peace between Israel and the Palestinians, according to a White House statement.

Russian Submarine Test-Fires ICBM

The Russian Northern Fleet’s Project 955 underwater missile cruiser, aka submarine, Yuri Dolgoruky has successfully test-fired a Bulava missile from the Barents Sea and hit all the designated targets at the Kura practice range in Kamchatka, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday according to Russia’s TASS news agency.

“The Project 955 Borey-class underwater missile cruiser Yuri Dolgoruky has made a successful launch of a Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile from the designated area of the Barents Sea towards the Kura practice range in Kamchatka. The launch was made from the submerged position in compliance with a combat training plan,” the Defense Ministry said.

It is unclear if the Russian launch was in response to any recent US or NATO drills: at the end of May, the Pentagon conducted its first successful test interception of a simulated  ICBM attack, modeling a possible escalation in hostilities with North Korea.

How China’s cyber command is being built to supersede its U.S. military counterpart

As U.S. leaders contemplate a proper definition for “cyberwar,” their counterparts in China have been building a unit capable of fighting such a large-scale conflict.

China’s rival to U.S. Cyber Command, the ambiguously named Strategic Support Force (SSF), is quietly growing at a time when the country’s sizable military is striving to excel in the digital domain.

Though the American government is widely considered to be one of the premier hacking powers — alongside Israel, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom — China is rapidly catching up by following a drastically different model.

ISIS USING DRONES RIGGED WITH MUNITIONS TO ATTACK ADVANCING FORCES IN RAQQA

The Islamic State militant group (ISIS) is increasingly turning to drone warfare in the eastern Syrian city of Raqqa as it loses swaths of territory in the de facto capital of its self-declared caliphate.

The city has been under siege by a U.S.-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters since June 6. But now ISIS fighters are using technological means to slow the advance of the coalition known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF.

According to France 24, its correspondents witnessed, firsthand, grenade-size munitions attached to unmanned drones that are difficult to stop because of their size and speed.

Great recession fears as bankers warn next global crash could arrive ‘with a vengeance’

A new financial crisis is brewing in the emerging economies and it could hit “with a vengeance”, an influential group of central bankers has warned.

Emerging markets such as China are showing the same signs that their economies are overheating as the US and the UK demonstrated before the financial crisis of 2007-08, according to the annual report of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Claudio Borio, the head of the BIS monetary and economic department, said a new recession could come “with a vengeance” and “the end may come to resemble more closely a financial boom gone wrong”.

Nebraska ‘Tri-Faith Initiative’ Building Church, Synagogue, Mosque Side by Side

A groundbreaking was recently held as part of a Nebraska building project that will erect a church, synagogue and mosque side by side on the same property. Temple Israel, the American Muslim Institute and Countryside Christian Church claim that they are being led by God to create the multi-faith location in Omaha. “We believe that we are being led by our God to continue the journey started by Abraham and that we are all called to be a blessing to each other and our community,” the FAQ section of the Tri-Faith Initiative website outlines.
